El Greco painter in Spain

El Greco, known as “The Greek,” was a painter, sculptor, and architect of the Spanish Renaissance, although his style is often categorized as part of the Mannerist movement. Born Domenikos Theotokopoulos in Crete, he moved to Spain in search of patronage, eventually settling in Toledo. There, he produced his most famous works, characterized by elongated figures, dramatic lighting, and a distinctive use of color that set his work apart from his contemporaries.
